Overview

Mount Kailash is perhaps the most sacred of Holy Mountains situated in the western part of remote Tibet. A part from that, this region is one of the exceptional natural wonders of the world together with the two lakes of MANSAROVAR and RAKAS. Three of the Orient's greatest rivers; the BRAHMAPUTRA, the SUTLEJ and the INDUS, all take their sources within hundred kilometers of this 'SNOW CAPPED JEWEL' attracting Hindus, Buddhists, Janis and Bonpo from the all corners of Asia for centuries.

Although the journey entails a long ride by vehicle over Tibet's great western plateau, this exciting tour involving three-day Mount Kailash circumambulation trek in the remotest part around MT KAILASH, by which offer the most fascinating incomparable holiday of lifetime experience in the ROOF OF THE WORLD.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Mon/Tue/Wed, Arrival in Kathmandu

The flight into the Himalayas reveals breathtaking views of the great peaks of Mt. Dorje Lakpa (6,966 m), Mt. Ganesh Himal (7,422 m), Mt. Langtang (7,227 m), etc., (weather permitting) taking you right into the Himalayan capitals at Kathmandu. After immigration formality at the airport, you will be greeted and welcomed by a Sampurna Adventure personnel & transferred to your hotel, Spend the rest of the day at leisure for personal activities, explore around the city center or take a rest following your program briefing, overnight at the hotel.

Day 2 : Visit in Kathmandu: Swoyambhunath, Kathmandu, and Patan/Lalitpur

(Optional: Early morning an optional Mount Everest flight tour – The Highest Mountain on Earth).

Visit Kathmandu Durbar square (a UNESCO World Heritage site), the most important monuments of the Nepalese capital in the open-air museum filled with the temples, courtyards and palace of the Malla Kings, who ruled over the city. Other impressive sights include a giant statue of Kal Bhairab, the God of Destruction, stunning Shiva-Parvati temples, Taleju, and the Kumari Palace, where the Kumari acknowledges their greetings from her window.

Swoyambhunath Stupa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is probably the most sacred ancient Buddhist pilgrimage site soaring above the city on a lofty hilltop, the fascinating, chaotic jumble of Buddhist and Hindu iconography, ancient carvings, the smell of incense and butter lamps, the mystical atmosphere is heightened by devotees who make a ritual circumambulation of the stupa, spinning the prayer wheels set into its base. This famous stupa is surrounded by typical houses of priests, Chaityas and monasteries. 

Later visit Patan Durbar Square (World Heritage Site), the city of fine arts & crafts in metal, stone, and terracotta, it is famous for its rich cultural heritage, where you will see its ancient palace with golden gate and window, temples of Krishna, Shiva, Golden temple (Hiranya Barna Mahabihar) as well as monasteries & beautiful courtyard.

Day 3 : Visit in Kathmandu: Bhaktapur, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath

Bhaktapur, a UNESCO World Heritage site & the medieval capital city, visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square, surrounded by spectacular architecture and vividly showcases the skills of the Newari artists and craftsmen over several centuries, an example of exquisite woodworks in the Palace of 55 windows with its golden gate, the beautiful Dattatreya, Nyatapola with Bhairab Temple and ceramics Square, 

Pashupatinath, a "UNESCO World Heritage site", the sacred Hindu Shiva temple, serves as the seat of the national deity, this "extensive Hindu temple ground" offers an "extensive collection of temples, ashrams, sculptures” etc. for centuries along the banks of the sacred river Bagamati, considered Varanasi for Hindus, where we could witness their final rituals of cremation.

Boudhanath, "a UNESCO World Heritage site", it’s a massive mandala that makes it one of the largest spherical Stupas in the world, where many Tibetan refugees residing since 1960, in its premises have built more than 50 Buddhist monasteries. The Stupa is said to have buried the remains of Kassapa Buddha. 

Day 4 : Kathmandu – Rasuwa Gadi – Gyirong: (2,700 m)

Early in the Morning with packed breakfast we commence our overland adventure holy trip to Mt. Kailash and Manasarovar, the road to “Kerung/Gyirong” Nepal Tibet Border through the scenic Nepalese countryside, passing by village above mountain, river. After necessary border formalities at Nepali immigration we will cross by foot the friendship bridge, at the Tibet side we meet our Tibetan guide and drivers, after all necessary Chinese immigration formalities at the check post we continue an hour / 25 km drive to Kerung Town. 

Day 5 : In Gyirong: Rest Day for acclimatization day

Today we will explore nearby monastery on leisurely walk or we will be going for short trek which help us in preparation for Kailash trek to acclimatize fast. 

Day 6 : Gyirong – Saga: 4,450 m

The road climbs up to the, La Lung Pass (5124m) afterward drive downhill before heading western part of Tibet, from here the road to east goes to Lhasa, capital city of Tibet. The driving towards Saga offers the stunning views of the Mt. Shisha Pangma (8012m), nomads chasing thousands of yaks and sheep keep us busy. By late afternoon we will cross the Brahmaputra River and will be reached to Saga the typical Chinese and Tibetan town, 

Day 7 : Saga – Payang (4750 Mt) – Manasarovar Lake (4560 m, 460 km) – Darchen

After breakfast, drive from Saga to Payang, around 3 hours driving about 250 Km. The beauty of nature will pursue you continuously, wild lives and farm animals keep you busy during the driving period. 

Later we proceed from Paryang to Manasarovar around 4 hours’ drive, crossing about 210 Km. Overnight stay at Darchen.

Day 8 : Darchen – Diraphuk (4,890 m) (Kailash trekking) 200 m ascent

After Breakfast we will drive up to trek point then we start trek today for 5-6 hrs, Yak will carry our all-essential equipment. Our first day of the Kailash circumambulation (Kora).

On the way we have the north face of Kailash reward us with the most breathtaking vistas, sandwiched between the two "disciple-mountains," Chana Dorje and Chenrezig. A straightforward trail ascends to the north face. As we climb, at times steeply up the valley that eventually leads to the little glacier that descends from Kailash, today we surely feel the altitude.

Day 9 : Diraphuk – Zutulpuk (4,750 m) (Kailash trekking) 500 Mt ascent / 600 Mt descent

The trek from the east bank eventually meets the kora route after a challenging ascent into a moraine. At Shiva-tsal, 5,331 m (17,490 ft), we will come across heaps of cloths left by pilgrims as we continue to ascend. As part of leaving their previous lives behind, Tibetans sometimes leave a piece of clothing or a drop of blood here. 

The day is very sensitive and we have to pass Dolma-La (5,670 m) above sea level. The weather is unpredictable in Dolma-La, any time can change and start to snow storm. So, we have to start our journey as earlier as possible. In route, we can view of beautiful Gaurikunda Lake. But it is very difficult to go and touch. 

Day 10 : Zutulpuk – Darchen (Kailash trekking) 160 Mt descent.

After Breakfast, one can enjoy the morning time in exploring the caves, visiting the temples and shrine built around. Here you will see a married old couple supervising the temple. The temple is a residence for over half a dozen Tibetan devotees, helpers or relatives who keep them busy with the maintenance of the buildings. The cave also contains meditation platforms. Climbing up to these caves before ending the final trek of the holy Kailash Manasarovar is worth. After the Parikrama or Kora around Mount Kailash over the 5630-meter Drolma La (pass), clockwise for Buddhists and Hindus, anti-clockwise for followers of the ancient Bon religion, which is said to erase the sins of a lifetime, finally we reach to the final destination at Darchen. Day 11 : Darchen – Saga

From today we retrace same route towards Lhasa, during our journey we will cross many high pass and rivers as well as green pastures and nomadic herdsmen with their horses and flocks of sheep grazing in the shadow of the Himalaya, this area is regarded as having some of the most breathtaking scenery on the entire trek. 

On the road to Saga, we'll continue driving through the expansive Thang Kiang Naga, also known as the "plain of wild donkeys and grassland" before arriving in Saga, pass through a number of tiny villages, including Zhongba and a few smaller passes cross the Torkyo La at 16,010 feet (4,880 meters), It is worth visiting but it was badly damaged during Cultural Revolution.

Day 12 : Saga – Gyirong

We continue drive back from Saga to Gyirong, Chinese border town, in route will find a different quite moment than the snow land, waterfall, flourish forest, deep gorges accompany you traveling all the way with amazing view is the snow-capped mountains standing behind the forest, varied forms of scenery.

Day 13 : Gyirong – Kathmandu / 185 km, 7 hrs drive:

After breakfast, we leave the territory of Tibet, China and drive 25 km to Gyirong Port where we will cross the China immigration and cross the friendship bridge, on the next side we rich to Nepal immigration where we have our vehicle waiting for us, on arrival we will be greeted and welcome by Sampurna Adventure personal and then we drive through beautiful mountain zigzag roads to Kathmandu, during the monsoon time (July, Aug, Sep) the road are bumpy and some part of road washed by landslide.

Day 14 : Departure: Kathmandu to City of Origin.


Leisurely breakfast, In the morning free for personal activities, we can explore the narrow lively and endless streets of Thamel town where we will find all kinds of good restaurants, full of typical Nepali handicraft, fine jewelry, clothing and trekking gear store, later at the arranged time transfer to the airport for final departure to connect onward flight.
